Over the years there have been lots of ups and downs between GM and Dealerships.

Will Mary Barra's stewardship of GM be a good thing for dealer relations or not?

It has not been smooth sailing throughout the history of GM. Take for instance when back in 1999 the automaker had plans to acquire up to 800 dealerships throughout the U.S.

Dealers went ballistic and mobilized for a fight. Lawsuits were threatened. NADA made it known, loudly that they were not at all happy with GM's proposal to join the dealer ranks.

GM executives quickly abandoned the plan.

Will GM make another attempt to force software down the throats of their dealerships like they tried to do with the Reynolds and Reynolds DMS system, several years back?

What's in store now for GM Dealers?

Only time will tell.
