After-sales services include car washing and waxing, servicing, parts and warranties. These not only make great additions to a car sale but they can be an extra revenue stream too.

Added incentives

When selling a car you have the freedom to add elements from your after-sales service to that package. A year's free servicing might be exactly what an undecided customer needs to push them to buy.

You can also add these extras as part of a promotion to draw in new customers.

Higher margin services

Cars tend to be low margin items and are best paired with higher margin services such as warranties. This makes each sale worth more.

With customers who want to haggle, there's more room for movement with these add-ons. So even if you can't reduce price on a car, you can offer half price servicing and still make a good profit.

The up-sell

When selling your low-margin car, try and get the customer to buy further services (ones with higher margins) to boost the profit of that sale. Make sure you follow your customer's signals and don't hard sell as this will just put them off. Simply sell the benefits of warranty and servicing packages.

If you provide a valuable service and know how to sell it to a customer, how can they refuse?

Marketing

These services go hand-in-hand with car sales and give you the opportunity to market a such. Let customers know about the free air fresheners that come with every car or the half price servicing they'll get for the next three years after buying one of your cars.

It's a great way to distinguish your dealership from the competitors.

Wider customer base

With an after-sales department, you may get customers in who didn't buy their cars from you. This instantly widens your customer base. If you do a good job then those customers may buy a car from you in the future.

Customer retention

If a customer can buy a car and get it serviced/repaired at the same place, they're going to be coming back year after year (providing your service is good and the price right, of course).

This is a simple way to keep customers and not let them forget about you. This means that when it comes to getting a new car, they're likely to think of your dealership first.
